On this hike, I slowly worked my way along a very icy cliffside trail to an incredible local overlook. The sun was setting just as I reached the top of the mountain, but the view was so wide and expansive that I didn’t see much point in photographing anything. As I started back down the icy trail, I noticed a lone pine tree clinging to the cliff face across the canyon. While the setting sunlight was still casting a warm glow across the scene, I set up quickly and photographed the tree just as the last light of the day was fading. The low angle of the sunset glow really brought out some beautiful color and shadow in the cliff face that complemented the dark outline of the pine.
